Frequently Asked Questions about your Visit with a Nutritionist

What is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist?

The basics of good health start at the cellular level.  If residual wastes accumulate in our cells, tissues and organs, they can make us sick.

Health is self maintaining and self regulating through appropriate food and drinks, balance between movement and rest, restoration through sleeping and waking, regeneration through respiration, evacuation and excretion.

We are born to live in health for a long time but most will die prematurely of disease caused by poor lifestyle habits and toxic accumulations.

As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist in Oakville, I can help you to improve your current level of health and chances for a longer and better life through: appropriate diet and nutritional supplements, lifestyle modification, exercise, detoxification and drainage.

Can a Nutritionist help me with my high blood pressure, high cholestorol or diabetes?

According to the World Health Organization report on Human Disease:

9 out of 10 Canadians will die from chronic disease such as heart disease that are largely preventable through diet, exercise and a smoke free lifestyle.

The cells in your body are built from the foods that you eat. When you make suitable food choices, you will feel better and build better cells. Proper nutrition is your best prevention against type 2 diabetes, obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, colds, infections, and many more conditions. It is exactly like the saying “you are what you eat.”

How can Nutritional Counseling improve my life?

What you learn by consulting with a Registered Holistic Nutritionist you can use every day.  Each day we are making food choices, preparing foods and eating.  In some cases, we are making these choices for our family members.  Small changes over time can make a tremendous difference in how we look, feel and how healthy we are.

"I have tried many diets and spent thousands of dollars on these diets trying to lose weight, but failed.” What can you suggest for me?

Each person is unique, so any one diet is not appropriate for every person.  Some diets have some good points, but they also probably had some bad points.   The diets that you have tried may not have been appropriate for you, or they may not have been something that you could sustain long term.  In my Oakville office, we do not create “diet plans” we work with you to create customized menu planning based on your needs.

What is the difference between a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and a Registered Dietician?

Registered Holistic Nutritionists are granted their designation after completing a demanding set of courses set by the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. The courses include anatomy, physiology of the body, mind body connection, along with case studies, board and oral exams and practicum hours with a minimum average of 80% on all courses. Many Registered Holistic Nutritionists join the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants which was established in 1983 to assure the public that practitioners are meeting high educational standards.

Dieticians are required to complete a Bachelor’s degree in human nutrition and then go on to do an internship program. Dieticians generally work in clinics, industry, or institutions. Dieticians are regulated under the Regulated Health Practitioners Act.
